Meet Our Team
Richard T. Schorr, DVM- owner
Dr. Schorr grew up on a ranch south of Tucson. He did his undergraduate studies at University of Arizona and went on to graduate veterinary school in 1962 from Colorado State University. Dr. Schorr was a Research Fellow at the Royal Veterinary College in Stockholm, Sweden, where he studied surgery & radiology. There, he met and married his wife, then returned to Arizona. He and his wife raised their 4 children on a farm in western Washington and he practiced small animal medicine for 26 years in Tacoma, WA. In 1990, Dr. Schorr and his wife decided to move back to Arizona, along with 3 of the 4 children. And he opened University Pet Clinic in 1991.
Dr. Schorr enjoys drawing, painting, sculpting and etching in his spare time. He has spent a great deal of time traveling the country, giving seminars and demonstrations at universities, forums and events, on the lost art of traditional rawhide braiding to make reatas (lassos). He makes saddles and enjoys leather tooling, as well.
In addition, Dr. Schorr plays an active role on the Board in the restoration, preservation and public education of the Empire Ranch, a historic working ranch near Sonoita, AZ.
Karin Schorr Shelby- Hospital Administrator
Karin is youngest daughter of Dr. Schorr and has worked with her father since she was a young girl in Washington. She worked as a veterinary technician for many years, while finishing her Bachelor of Sciences degree from University of Arizona in December 1994. After taking 6 months off to teach ski school in Colorado and traveling abroad a bit, Karin came back to manage University Pet Clinic in 1996. Karin has two young children, a daughter and son.
Chris B.- Certified Veterinary Technician
Chris graduated from University of Arizona in 2000 with a BS in Wildlife & Fisheries Science. He passed the state and national examinations to become a Certified Veterinary Technician in 2000. Starting in 1995, Chris has worked as a technician in Tucson and was hired by University Pet Clinic in 2002. Chris has extensive knowledge in pharmaceuticals, emergency medicine in animals & current technology.
Lori K.- Certified Veterinary Technician
Lori earned her diploma as a Veterinary Assistant from Pima Medical Institute in 2001. She worked as a technican in Tucson, starting in 2001, before being hired as a full-time technician at University Pet Clinic in 2003. In 2006, Lori passed the state and national examinations to become a Certified Veterinary Technician. In late 2008, Lori had a son and works here only as a part-time, relief technician.
Jackie G.- Veterinary Technician
Jackie was hired as a full-time technician at University Pet Clinic in 2005, while she completed her internship for Pima Medical Institute. She received her certification as a Veterinary Assistant in the beginning of 2006.
Selena A.- Veterinary Technician
In 2008, Selena earned her diploma as a Veterinary Assistant through Pima Medical Institute. She worked as a technician at another local clinic in 2008 before being hired as a full-time technician at University Pet Clinic in 2009.
Sydney B.- Veterinary Technician
Sydney was hired as a full-time technician at University Pet Clinic in 2009. She is currently enrolled at Penn Foster College, pursuing an Associates degree in Veterinary Technology.
Annie A.- Veterinary Technician
Annie started volunteering at University Pet Clinic in 2005 while pursuing her undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona. She was, then, hired as a technician in 2006. Annie graduated from U of A in 2006, with her BS in Veterinary Sciences. She was accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University and started in 2007, with an anticipated graduation date of 2011. Annie comes back to Tucson and works as a technician on her holiday and summer breaks.
